Hotels made of ice and snow are only operational for a few weeks each winter. Therefore you will need to make arrangements well in advance to ensure you and any of your wedding guests can be accommodated.

Ice hotels are comprised of massive amounts of snow and ice and built near the rivers where the frozen water is taken from.

Sometimes referred to as over-sized igloos, they are unique and architecturally interesting. They generally take about 6 weeks to construct and for the most part, melt away each spring. Because they are rebuilt each year, they are never the same as the previous season.

Inside these ice castles everything sparkles. From the artistic sculptures to the thick walls, floor and even the bed you sleep on – they are all carved from gigantic slabs of ice. You will however get a foam mattress or reindeer skin (depending on where you stay) and a mummy-style sleeping bag to spend the night in. And what about check-out time? Well you'll want to get going as soon as you awaken since your room is a very chilly minus 5 to minus 8 degrees Celsius (17 to 23 degrees Fahrenheit).

Most Popular Hotels made of Ice

The two most popular frozen hotels are Icehotel in Sweden and Hôtel de Glace in Quebec Canada with the Swedish one being the world's first and largest.

Both hotels have an ice chapel for the ceremony, have each conducted more than one hundred weddings and have a wedding coordinator on staff to help with your arrangements.

You probably won't travel all the way to one of these destinations without taking in some of the other activities in the area. Whether it's a chance to go dog sledding, take a snowmobile tour or carve some ice you'll find a whole new way to experience winter at these magical snow castles.
