Alaska became the 49th state of the US in January 1959. It was purchased from the Russian Empire for a mere $7.2 million in March 1867, or about two cents per acre!

There are three major cities which are the most common to visit when coming to Alaska. Any of these (Junea, Anchorage, or Fairbanks), would make the perfect location for an Alaska destination wedding.

Juneau

The capital of Alaska is Juneau and has a population of just over 30,000. It is located at the foot of Mount Juneau and is a major port of call for many of the cruise lines.

One of the unique things about this state capital is the fact that it is only accessible by air and sea. If you decide to combine one of the Alaska cruise packages with your wedding, then you will not be able to hold a winter wedding. This is because the cruise ships only travel the Pacific Northwest routes from May through September.

Anchorage

The largest city in Alaska is Anchorage. It is a modern metropolitan city located in the south-central region of the state and also a popular cruise destination. The population of Greater Anchorage is estimated at 375,000 or about half the population of the entire state.

Getting married in Anchorage offers the advantages and amenities of a modern city united with the spectacular scenery of rugged shorelines and soaring glaciers and mountains. Certainly a breathtaking destination.

Fairbanks

Second in size to Anchorage is Fairbanks. The metropolitan region of Fairbanks boasts a population of approximately 100,000 and is located in the interior region of Alaska. Fairbanks is accessible by all modes of transportation. Because of its size, it also has all the amenities you would require.

Fairbanks is home to the World Ice Art championships, the largest annual ice art competition and exhibition. The ice sculptures are truly magnificent and would make an impressive backdrop for your photos.

Regardless of how you arrive in Alaska or where you stay, getting married in this magnificent state will leave you exhilarated. From the warm people to the spectacular wildlife and dancing Northern Lights, you will never forget your trip to Alaska.

As with any destination wedding, ensure you are familiar with the local customs and traditions and wedding licensing requirements. It is best to work with a destination wedding planner who is familiar with the area, the weather and the available venues and attractions. Search out for a professional wedding planner who deals especially with unusual destinations for your big day!

Make the most of your Alaska destination wedding and enjoy your stay!
